My Story: The Path to J Benjamin Financial
In 2011, I relocated from my hometown of Scranton, Pennsylvania, to my new home in Charleston, while at the same time undergoing a major career transition after years of working in the hospitality industry. I had always been interested in financial investing and decided to pursue it as a career. After applying to several financial advisor training programs at major firms, I ultimately was given the opportunity to start my advising career with Edward Jones.
This was a whole new world for me. At that time, I had never owned a stock or set up a 401k and had far less investment experience than my peers. I initially felt like I was at a disadvantage, but I quickly discovered that investing and financial planning came very naturally to me. Knowing what it’s like to need financial guidance, I take my role as an advisor very seriously. I truly feel like my clients are my family and it’s important to me that every decision and recommendation I make is aligned with their personal values and goals.
I have an entrepreneurial spirit and am not afraid to take the path less traveled. After five years of expanding my financial expertise and client list under Edward Jones’ direction, I decided that I wanted to provide a different type of financial experience for my clients.
As larger financial firms grow, service can suffer as their team tries to keep up while stretched too thin. I wanted to take a different approach and provide highly detailed service for only as many clients as time would reasonably allow. In July 2016, I left Edward Jones thankful for the strong foundation and experience it provided me and created J Benjamin.
